There was no rest after my US trip, because I soon headed off on a new adventure, this time on the Mediterranean. My aunt and uncle love the east coast of Spain, specifically the small town of El Campello, in the region of Valencia.*
They rented an apartment for the month and invited me to visit. Since it was on the 20th floor, the apartment had lovely views of the sea, and you can even hear the waves way up there. My uncle is a marvelous chef and we cooked together a few times. Even though I think of myself as an fairly experienced cook, I always learn when I cook with him. This is the part of Spain where English people go to retire, so it is full of fish and chip shops and places like the tea store where my aunt and I went to an English language knitting group. It is a lovely place to visit, but the bustling metropolis of Madrid is definitely the place for me right now.
*This was all before the devastating floods that hit Valencia. El Campello was not affected, but small towns around Valencia are still suffering from that tragedy.
One of their favorite pinchos restaurants, where servers come by with platters of small bites, all on skewers. At the end of the meal, you pay for each empty skewer on your plate.
My aunt and uncle can´t walk a ton, so we freqently drove places. But I also took beach walks on my own.

I am impressed with all the travel and walking you manage to fit in! I hope Madrid isn't feeling boring as a result of returning home
We made the it past the editors and got posted!
Looks so serene!
Excellent Spanish, uncle de-I!
Ellie, it really was beautiful. I was lucky to get on the invitation list :)
I've just caught up with reading your blog - after I replied to your email - so I know the answers to most of the questions I asked you. I will endeavour to think of some questionsfor you to write about. Valencia sounds a very beautiful place to visit.
