The oral exam - it's really going to happen

My department has finally given me a date for my oral exam: Monday, October 9th at 10am-12pm. My advisor (who's on sabatical this year) will be in town that day, so he will head the committee. There are two other professors on the committee, but I don't know them very well. So, please continue holding your breath and crossing your fingers, and you may now begin your sacred dances and sacrifices to the physics gods.

As a born-again Aztec, I will go on a war party and find some poor Albuquerquean who we can drag up pyramid in back and conduct our heartless (ha ha get it - heartless) sacrifice so the gods will smile upon you.

Seriously will put you on the prayer list

Thanks, uncle-nm. It continues to amaze me that the worse my life goes the more I realize how great my family and friends are.

What is the proper sacrifice to the physics gods? My knowledge of what they'd prefer is severely limited...

My experience is that the following sacrifices are pleasurable to the gods: killing your social life, burning up your fashion sense, and abstaining from pleasure of all types.

Ah. Well those I can handle. well on my way with the fashion one actually...

Keep up the anti-social, unfashionable dedication, dear Ms. Goertzen. I can tell it is not going unnoticed by the Physics Man (case in point, your advisor- who is suave in all things political and charismatic in all things physics and education related- is going to get to head the committee and help protect you from unnecessary fire). So keep it up, it is paying off so far!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you! As for sacrifices, that should come naturally as I was out of the office a few days and that tends to kill the social life anyways
